Tunmise Ayodele Foundation (TAF) Maiden Essay Competition

Nation-Building Through the Eyes of Young Leaders

In its bid to promote sound, equitable, and inclusive education in Nigeria, the Tunmise Ayodele Foundation is thrilled to announce its maiden essay competition. This initiative aims to challenge the brilliant minds of teenagers and young adults in secondary schools across Ekiti State to showcase their understanding of nation-building through their ideas and aspirations.

 The essay competition will provide participants with an opportunity to enhance their writing, critical thinking, and leadership skills while contributing meaningful ideas that can help shape the future of education and leadership in Nigeria.

About the Competition:

Topic: Building Strong Leaders Through Education to Strengthen National Unity

Themes:

  • The Importance of Civic Education in Shaping Responsible Leaders
  • Promoting National Unity in Nigerian Schools While Preserving Cultural Identity
  • Strengthening National Unity Through Gender Equality in Nigerian Education
  • Technology as a Bridge Between Education, Leadership, and National Development

Entry Requirements:

  • Ages 13-18
  • Participants must be enrolled in a secondary school in Ekiti, Nigeria.
  • Essays must be original and unpublished.
  • Each entry must include the participant’s name, age, school, class/year, and contact information.

Submission: The submission deadline is February 25, 2025.

(Your Document should be titled: First Name, Last Name, TAF Essay. Any submission that does not adhere to this format will be automatically rejected.)

  • Word Limit: 800-1,200 words
  • Must be typed (using Microsoft Word, Word Pad, etc.)
  • Submission must be in Microsoft Word or PDF format

Prizes:

 

1st Place

–       Cash Prize ₦200,000 (50% to school and student)

–       Donation of Educational materials to the participant and their school

–       Grand Finale Event Featuring Grants and Scholarships

–       Opportunity to be featured on our website and social media pages as a TAF Education Ambassador                                              

2nd Place

–       Cash Prize ₦150,000 (50% to school and student)

–       Donation of Educational materials to the participant and their school

–       Opportunity to be featured on our website and social media pages as a TAF Education Ambassador

3rd Place

–       Cash Prize ₦100,000 (50% to school and student)

–       Donation of Educational materials to the participant and their school

4th – 7th Place

–       Cash Prize (₦20,000 each)

** Please note that prizes and donations will be presented to the participants and their school representatives at the grand finale event.

Judging Criteria: Essays will be evaluated based on relevance to the topic, creativity, clarity, grammar, and overall impact. 

Selection Announcement: Winners will be contacted and announced on March 21, 2025. We will contact winners through the phone number and email addresses provided.

While this is a competition, we wish to reiterate that it is an opportunity to explore how education can unite Nigerians and foster a stronger sense of community. By participating, students will examine how education can celebrate diversity while promoting a shared national identity. This aligns with Nigeria’s education policy and the Sustainable Development Goals for quality education.

Grand Finale Event: This event will tentatively take place at the 1st Place Winner’s School. Logistics information will be communicated to all participants in due course. The 1st to 3rd place winners will present their essays to attendees, and additional prizes will be awarded to the best presentation based on in-house selection criteria.
